Jules Gluten Free Products

was so generous and gracious in sending me, about 2 full months ago, coupons to go pick-up, several packages of her: Gluten-Free Flour, Flour starters, Bread Mix, Waffle Mix, and Brownie Mix. Phew! She sent me quite a bit!

(I’m so sorry I don’t have pictures for all of the items I baked nor the picture of the package I received from Jules. Back on that late October day when I’d received her coupons then when I picked up the packages of her Flours/Mixes/Starters, I had forgotten to take pictures of everything! Then, when I realized I had to post this Review, it was then that I realized I have no pictures to take b/c I’ve eaten everything! I do plan on making more baked goods with Jule’s products, but not for a bit. I’m currently taking a bit of a break on baking until I can eat-up many of the products I’ve always received from several other companies.

Here is some great information About Jules Gluten Free started which you can view here:

“Jules is one of the top experts on gluten-free living in the Washington area; Time magazine, ABC, and other major media outlets line up for her advice. The Celiac patient got her start five years ago by sending out a newsletter that featured new gluten-free recipes and products; now she has her own blog, website, and line of gluten-free flour, and has penned three books.”

Never one to compromise, celiac patient-expert Jules Shepard was tired of the bland-tasting, gritty compromises too many celiacs suffer with.  So she set out to develop a truly all-purpose gluten-free flour she could easily use in her existing recipes.  The result is her patent-pending formulation that took this experienced baker more than two years to perfect.

Manufactured in a certified allergy-free, gluten-free and kosher facility, Jules Gluten Free™ All Purpose Flour now can be shipped directly to your door.  Combined with Jules’ FREE weekly recipe newsletter, Jules Gluten Free™ All Purpose Flour will open many doors for gluten-free eaters…the first of which leads you (back) into your kitchen.

In addition to heading product and recipe development at Jules Gluten Free™, Jules is a celiac advocate. She travels the country speaking to thousands of people annually, teaching cooking classes and educating and inspiring people about her no-compromise approach to living gluten-free.  She also has written three books.  The First Year: Celiac Disease and Living Gluten-Free is a month-by-month reference for newly diagnosed celiacs and anyone making the transition to living gluten free.  Her first book, Nearly Normal Cooking for Gluten-Free Eating continues to be a best-seller in the gluten-free community.  Her third book, Free for All Cooking, was released in the Fall of 2010.

My Reviews & Ratings – After being diagnosed with gluten intolerance (it’s not an allergy or celiac disease though), I’ve been trying to eat more gluten-free products. So, when I received these samples in the mail from Jules, I was very grateful and excited. However, I have to admit I was a little skeptical, as I wasn’t fully sure how these would turn out taste-wise.
So far, with Jules’ starters, I made apple-cinnamon muffins using my own made-up recipe.
The muffins were delicious!
I have made carrot cake, baking powder biscuits, waffles and sandwich bread with amazing results using Jules Gluten-Free Flour. To have the ability to bake gluten free foods that taste as good or better has made this gluten free transition very easy. Thank you for this great product.
My first attempt at “normal” baking I made cupcakes…a treat I thought I’d never get to enjoy again. They turned out beautifully!  I followed the recipe exact, didn’t have to add any extras or anything.  Where it called for regular wheat or white of flour I used the Jules flour and it totally worked!  I shared with my family and friends and none of them could tell they were gluten free because they tasted like the original thing!  I’m so excited to finally have found this and can’t wait to try out more recipes.  My only regrets are that I didn’t know about Jules’ products sooner.

The other thing that I find brilliant and helpful about Jules’ website and newsletter are the recipes. She has them covering every occasion and I’ve already emailed a bunch of them to myself to bake up soon.

I absolutely love this flour blend.  It is truly spectacular in converting my traditional recipes to gluten-free.

I wasn’t sure whether her flour would be a consistency of a gritty rice flour and a result of dried-out bread soon after baking it!

I also have a Breadman bread-maker that has…unfortunately, been collecting dust in my cabinet, so I took it out and am definitely excited to get it back into action again. I think the first thing I want to make is Jules’ Cranberry Bread using her flour.

While the fragrance of the bread filled the air, I could barely wait until it was finished baking. As soon as it was done, I broke off a nice hunk of bread fresh out of the pan, steaming hot.  I followed suit and by the end of the evening there was another nice & sweet piece. Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, fluffy steaming bready deliciousness. . .  that description doesn’t bring to mind anything gluten free, does it?

Finally, I made gluten free brownies using the Jules Gluten Free flour with the Hershey’s Best Brownie recipe. I added a 12 ounce bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips, because that’s how I make brownies. My gluten-free brownie batter was more fluid than brownie batter from a mix. The brownies were rich, chocolaty and delicious!

I don’t know how the Jules Gluten Free All Purpose Flour compares in price to the cost of mixing my own gluten free flour blend, and this is something I plan on looking into. However, Jules Gluten Free is really, really good and is helping me make very tasty baked goods…that are good for me, too, being gluten-free.

Waffles - , it does describe the waffles I just made with new Jules Gluten Free Pancake and Waffle Mix. Coming from Jules, I knew it would be great. All of her mixes are – and her flour is the staple gluten free flour in my kitchen. One of the things I love about Jules’ products, this one being no exception, is that they are also dairy free. Her directions as well as her recipes always include how to make things dairy and egg free if you want to do that.

The bag comes with two separately packaged servings for four. I used half of one of those bags for today. It made 11 waffle  in my little waffle maker, and they were delicious! They have no weird taste, which I had been concerned they’d have. And the waffles turned out just right. They aren’t too dry or too gooey. They’re just right. They were light & fluffy.

I added some blueberries…and soon, I want to make some chocolate chip waffles for a sweet dessert-y breakfast. Jules even has a recipe on her site to make Belgian Waffles with her mix and a few simple additions.

I want to make muffins and coffee cake too!
